Floating Tenons

Is there a safe minimum depth of cut when machining the mortises to accommodate the floating tenon? Thanks

I would cut the mortise(s) no more than 2mm deeper than matching tenon length.

Thanks DP,but that was not exactly what I was asking,how deep or shallow mortise can you get away with before the tenon "breaks out".I have a small router that has limited m/c'ing depth.

I suppose it depends on the item, its size and its purpose. As a rough guide I would say the mortice depth should be a minimum of a third of the tenon width ( side to side.)
