Anyone know the best way to take scraps of paper with scrappy notes on an turn them into text - or at least as much as can be identified?

i saw something on itunes but i have a PC and an android

most of what im finding is for notetaking apps using a digital pen in the first place

i have a box of pen and pencil bits of paper full of my notes - and theyd take an age to type them all out (as a 2-4 finger typer)

so any ideas how i can do it? software? a gadget?

i can scan them into the pc easily

im aware that a lot of it wont be identifiable as its scribbly fast handwriting, but if i can get the bulk done and just edit for clarity that'd help

thanks :)

You need some decent OCR ('optical character recognition') software. The really good programs tend to be rather pricey (typically around £170) but there are some reasonably good free freebies available. See here:

You could try a speech to text app. But this would then need to be indexed or ordered.

thanks all

but i thought OCR was for printed text docs, not handwriting?

i guess the speech thing could work, probably quicker than typing it
If you read through my links, Joko, you'll see that some of the OCR programs listed there can be used with handwritten text.

If you're going to try voice recognition software, remember that it's built into Windows anyway. To access it, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access > Windows Voice Recognition. (Those instructions might differ slightly with different versions of Windows but it should be there somewhere). If you're using a laptop it will almost certainly have a built-in microphone, otherwise you'll have to see what inputs your computer has and, assuming that there's a relevant input for it, obtain a suitable microphone.

Google Docs can also recognise speech input.
