Google App On Android 9.1?

Hello, my issue is does anyone know how to stop the Google app from filling in previous searches? For example I just type in a letter and everything I have searched for with that letter appears in a box underneath the main search box, I have cleared the memory, done everything that I thought possible to stop it, but it's still happening - I am using Android 9.1, Many thanks.
