I’m looking for a basic machine that will just record from television to DVD. I don’t want fancy functions - just a recorder - but ‘unfancy’ seems hard to come by.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get one please?

Make sure that it can record digital tv (freeview), many can't.

They’re multi-function. I would like a simple recorder. I don’t want to play DVDs on it - just record DVDs. Is such a machine available?

Why DVDs rather than a hard drive?

If it records dvd it will play dvds. It is going to be nigh on impossible to buy an 'old fashioned' straightforward freeview dvd recorder.

Yes, they do, builder - and if the tv isn't 'smart' an Amazon firestick will cure the problem cheaply

I have that facility on my smart tv, but you can only play it back on the tv it was recorded on, presumably for copyright reasons.

The Builder, thanks for the thought but since I want to be able to play the DVDs on any television, that won't work on less up to date versions. I think I'm going to have to buy the fancy version.
