Laptop to TV

I have purchased a cable which plugs into the S Video socket on my laptop, and the other is SCART which I can plug into the back of my TV.Hopefully, this should allow me to watch video that I have on my laptop, on my TV.Is there anthing else I need to do? I vaguely recall someone on a previous post mentioning I will have to do something in my control panel to complete the process, but I cant remember what it was.
