You can "connect using a social media account".
Or, just a thought, you could buy a mobile phone & phone service.
Or better still don't use these fraudsters who should lose their licence to operate. Use the proper black cabs whose drivers are professional and fully insured.
"Uber Licence in Jepardy, Again!

Last Wednesday, at Westminster Magistrates Court, Uber London Limited, pleaded guilty to two counts of permitting a Private Hire vehicle to be used with no insurance. They also pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to keep records in accordance with the 1998 Private Hire Act.

As you will already be aware, Uber only gained a probationary licence (which expires in September) after convincing the very same court, Westminster, that they had reformed and would abide by a stringent list of conditions imposed by TfL. They have clearly failed to do this.

Uber were hoping that this story would not make it into the public domain, but this morning it will become public knowledge as we feed it into the mainstream media. Their massively well funded PR machine has already swung into action in a preemptive attempt to bring pressure on the Mayor and TfL by selling the possible licence revocation as 'a blow to the millions of Londoners who use Uber'. Crucially these 'leaks' to favoured journalists fail to mention last weeks convictions, nor the £28,000 fines imposed on Uber. A good example of how Uber are spinning it can be read here.

I have written to the Mayor reminding him of his stance on public safety and asking him to, once again, revoke Ubers licence. More detail and a copy of my letter will be in the next edition of Taxi, out tomorrow morning."

Black cabs are a thing of the past, Lankeela. With satnavs available in every car, there's no need at all for 'The Knoweledge' at all.

The sooner that all of black cabs are off London's streets, with their former drivers homeless and begging in the gutter, the happier I'll be.

Move with the times!
^ Nice
In some ways I agree with you Chris, but when I lived in London, only cab you could halt was a black one.
The problem we've got, both in London and elsewhere, is the silly differentiation between taxis and private hire vehicles, which means that you can't hail the latter in the street. We should get rid of the difference by immediately converting all 'private hire' licences to taxi ones but, as with private hire journeys at the moment, enabling drivers to dispense with their meter and quote a fixed price for the journey.
"The problem we`ve got" You live in Suffolk
You don`t know anything about London cabs
Ok 237Sj you lived in London for a long time then?
Strangely enough, 237SJ, Suffolk actually does have train lines that run into the capital. (It's only 68 miles from Ipswich to Liverpool Street).

If I travel to any other town or city in the UK I can easily find a phone number for a private hire car to get me to my destination (so that I can avoid using expensive taxis) It infuriates me that it's a damned site harder to do in London!
Tonyv - nearly 34 years ( too long)
When I returned to Bhx airport last year. I was quoted by a Hackneyed Black cab £135 to take me home. Uber did it for £63 !

That is why I choose to use Uber.

// Use the proper black cabs whose drivers are professional and fully insured. //

Just type into Google 'Black cab driver arrested'

Ok I got out when property prices were silly. But WC1 has kudos.
The account works best with a mobile phone Bigbas, as the taxi gets your location from it, and you can see where the car is when you order it. If you're thinking of using Uber regularly you could buy a cheap pay as you go phone. It would be good for emergencies too. Otherwise just use a black cab or take a bus.
