Amazon Kindle

Hi, has anyone bought an Amazon Kindle recently cost about £70. If you have any views or comments about it I would be interested to hear. First time of thinking of buying a Kindle so a little unsure of things. Mostly I need it to read at night as I am a bad sleeper. Many thanks.

I havent bought one recently but i know that there are two versions of each model, with or without 'special offfers' special offers are adverts

I have one, fairly old now, and I like it very much, especially for bed-reading. £70 sounds a lot, they often have the Fire 7 on offer for less. The one thing that I do that annoys me is if I read something interesting I'll look it up on t'internet. In a PD James there were a few old murderers mentioned so I looked them up to see if they were real cases, two hours later I was still reading about them!
If you're a bad sleeper however 'they' do say that screens are not a good idea at bedtime!

Kindles are great for reading at bedtime. Their screen is quite unlike a phone or tablet.

I've got a Kindle Fire 7. Absolutely love it, and cost me £20 less than yours!

The Kindle Fire is more of a tablet. Not so good for reading at night. The Kindle eReader is much better for reading.

well I bought one genie about 2 years ago - it cost me £100 but I didn't like it, didn't like the annoyance of only touching it to turn pages etc, however I do know people who love it, I gave it away a few weeks later

I have just recently bought a Fire 7 tablet, for me it was to send photos and video, on Amazon think it cost about £35, and I believe you can get kindle on it.

Try Amazon and it was sold by Currys, at £35 it is very cheap.

Agreed Ellipsis. Of course, I'm lazy and have an Audible account! The Fire does have a book app built in though, so can be used as a regular Kindle ebook.

Yep, I have a Kindle app on my Android phone, which comes in handy if I get delayed somewhere. But for full-on reading, especially at night, you can't beat the eReader.

I've had my kindle quite a while - this is my second one - and I wouldn't be without it. Great for reading in bed in the dark - wherever I happen to be in the world I can get a new book at any time day or night - and I can take a whole library away with me without paying a penny in Excess Baggage charges. What's not to like?

I've got a Kindle and a Kobo. (One was a gift). I've been using eReaders for years, I started with a Sony. I do like the Kindle, it's great for reading at night as it has an adjustable backlight. Easy to use, lightweight.
The downside for me is that is very difficult to transfer my library eBooks which I borrow from my local library. It is much easier to do that on my Kobo.
I haven't bothered paying the £10 to remove the ads. It is only there when I switch it on so doesn't affect my reading.
The battery lasts a long time so is perfect for holidays, much easier than taking lots of books.
I did buy a cheap cover for it. I lie on my side and can prop the book up. Much less fiddly than a paper book.

Especially if you switch the wifi off. Only switch wifi on when you want to download more books.

just looked at that link and it is now £49.99 - I must have been lucky cos mine was only £37.99 - only bought it a couple of weeks ago - must have been in a sale.

Regarding screens at bedtime, the advantage of using a dedicated eReader instead of an app on a tablet is the light is a different quality and shouldn't affect your sleep. Also the Kindle eReader is much, much lighter than the Fire tablet and the battery lasts very much longer.

Love my kindle, never regretted buying one. I like the fact you can adjust the size of the text, spacing, etc and it is so much easier to read on than an ordinary book with small print.

Also, if you have Prime you can borrow eBooks from the Amazon library.

two things, not mentioned, in favour. One, the font can be enlarged if required, and only one hand gets cold in winter. :o)

I love my kindle paperwhite and will get another when this one finally fails. Lighter than my ipad mini and softer backlighting. ideal for reading at night.
