Chris if you are about, do you know TotalAV a security package.
i lost my ad blocker for some reason and downloaded TotalAV
but not sure if it's actually free as it says.
The ads are all over everything i open, what if anything can be done

Why don't you just Google Ad Block Plus and download it again from there? You can disable it for specific sites such as AB.

I'm late to the party here but I'll just add the following anyway:
TotalAV is well-respected. Just like Avast and AVG, it comes as either a (free) anti-virus program or as a (paid-for) full security program. So the free version will block virus attacks but it won't do anything else.
Many browsers seem to block all/most ads by default anyway these days. I use Firefox, without any 'add-ons'. I never see ads on AB, nor on the website of my local newspaper (that's otherwise packed with them). i.e. I'm not actively seeking to block the ads; they just don't appear for me.
If you've been seeing an unusually high number of ads all over the place, I'd recommend running a malware scan. Download and run AdwCleaner. (There's no installation process; you simply run the downloaded file directly):
