when windows 10 first arrived, if I remember correctly, I was ASKED if I wanted to install the free upgrade by Microsoft onto my Lenovo , which I did, and am happy running Microsoft edge old version on my Lenovo G50 - 30 with bing as my search engine. I have automatic updates enabled. Recently I closed down my laptop and off to bed. Next day when I booted up, Microsoft automatically updated me to Microsoft edge new, which I hate. I was forced to do a system restore to get back to where I wanted to be. I have since cancelled (blocked) all updates until mid August 2020. When I updated to windows 10 Microsoft gave me the courtesy of asking if I wanted it, so WHY are they now insisting on attempting to install Microsoft edge new, and how do I stop them PERMANENTLY from installing it? They are a pain.
cheers.

Although MS Did all it could to con you into switching to Edge, if you'd read the screen carefully, you'd have realised there was an option to skip it. If you did switch, there was no need to do a restore, you could simply run your old browser, and follow the instructions to make it the default again.
TheChair - yes it did give me the option to click 'not now' and refuse it when it first popped up, but once, when I closed down and restarted my laptop next day, it automatically installed updates and loaded 'new Microsoft edge' - and I had no idea how to remove it WITHOUT doing a system restore. (still have no idea) I've done that now and am happily back with the version I want, with bing as my default search engine. I have disabled my automatic updates in control panel until mid August, (checked the 'off' box) and hopefully this will be ok until then. Thanks for all your help. Cheers.
emmie, it's great and has a lot of positive reviews in the techie magazines. It is Chromium based so it is very easy to add extensions from the Google Play store if you want to.
You don't need to remove it. It's just a browser. You can install as many different browsers as you want. I have Edge, Chrome, IE, and Firefox on my machine, for testing purposes. Only one of them can be the default. If you don't want Edge to be the default, simply select your favourite as the default.
