Alternatives To Canon Pixma

I seem to have been 'stuck' with Canon Pixma printers for nearly 20 years, and while at best they've served me well, when they do go wrong they are horrid.

So finally I want to break out and get a Different All-in-One Printer. A4, colour of course, photoprints, all that. Not over-bothered about print speed or cost (I don't do that many!)

Any recommendations from long usage?

Seriously I have bounced around printer brands a bit and for inkjet, every time I have bought something other than a Canon I have been sorry and it hasn't lasted long.

Just switched to a Canon MG5750. For a good few years I have a HP all-in -one Series 5520. I have a feeling I may live to regret changing to the Canon. The old HP worked well but was very clunky and noisy. This new Canon is not much better but I believe I have to navigate around the settings and am able to select a quiet mode.Ridiculous. I recommend Hewlitt-Packard.

Which? make Canon Pixma their Best Buy, so maybe I’m still a Canon user!

Allen; I gave up on cheap inkjet printers and bought a cheap B & W laser printer which is brilliant and the toner cartridges do not leak and they last for a long time. There might be a reasonably priced colour laser machine. Maybe worth a look.

Tend to be £250-£350 for a middle-range colour all-in-one machine, which for me (fairly modest print output) puts them in the expensive category, but thanks for the nod, as I do tend to forget lasers.

I've used Pixma inkjets for years, and happy with them.
The initial cost is less important than the continuing cost of the ink, and Pixma compatibles have rarely let me down!

allen I have got a very nice Brother laser colour printer, it cost me 200.00 it does what I want for my crafting and I am pleased with it, but even with special laser paper, the photo print quality isn't a patch on my Pixma.

I've got a Canon Pixma now, and it'a streets better than the HP and Epson which were my previous printers.

I'm the same as venator, allen, always bought Canon printers. The one I mentioned in a previous post has a fax function, but I don't think I'll be using that very often:) And as venator mentioned I get the cartridges re-filled for less than half the cost of Canon inks and have never had a problem.

HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Wireless Printer, is a reliable, connects to a wifi network easily, and stays connected. The scanner function also works well. Print quality is pretty good, like double-sided printing.

Canon was my first after dot-matrix, with separate colours. It was ace.
Later, a Brother, not bad, but it cleaned heads (burned ink) at night.
Happened to wake up at the right moment.
HP, marginal but not malevolent.
Whichever brand you choose, there's a lot of value in bundled apps.
I would also recommend separate colours.

My current Canon has an 800 page manual which is an exercise in futility & practically useless.
Also it burns ink whenever it's started, even to scan, or whenever it feels like it. Two XL cartridges in 3 months. Maybe 10 - 15 pages a month.

Time to read the reviews again, if you can trust those. Most are just ads paid for by the manufacturers.

I have a Hewlet Packard C4480. I can't fault it in any way. It does everything I need.

AZ “ it burns ink whenever it's started” - most Canons have a facility to STAY ON - so you don’t get that constant cleaning and ink usage when it starts up - it’s all in the useless manual somewhere!

Woofgang: as the resident 'expert' on Pixma machiness (I know), which one do you have? Mine is an MG7751, long superceded, getting rare (and expensive) on the second-hand market.

Canon still claim to see Pixma as their flagship printer, but don't produce many. The nearest one to the MG7751 seems to be the PIXMA G3510, but I'm a bit wary of the new-fangled ink tanks!

I don't need a new printer, yet, but I'm getting my ducks lined up.

Recycled the Canon & bought the above.
Separate cartridges & $100 CAD for a printer sturdy enough for light office duty. Had the best specs in that price range. Easy set-up.

allen mine are A3's for my crafting as well as other stuff. they are a TS9550 and an IP8750. There is nothing between them for quality but the 8750 takes heavier cardstock and the 9550 is an all in one which scans and photocopies. Printers seem to be in very short supply at the moment. They both will print smaller than A3.
I killed my 7750 and couldn't get a replacement.

Funny thing about the inventory. My choices were about half a dozen.
Plenty of models but N/A in the shops nor on-line.
Many people working from home I guess & have bought them out.
