Well, it was well stuck till I stuck me lips round the Home key and blew, and now it’s working on and off.

Is there a fairly powerful mini aerosol on the market which might blow out accumulated gunge?

when I clean my keyboard I use methylated spirits maybe that's the same thing as Chris has suggested.

Couldn’t find our rubbing alcohol, so used acetone instead (dries even more quickly than alcohol) and it’s worked.

Note to self: keep your thumb cleaner!
You can buy "tins of fresh air" (as the man in Screwfix calls them)

The likes of Wilko /Halfords might have the same sort of thing. I give the inside of my computers a blow-out every now and again.

Acetone ?? Can that be right.
I certainly wouldn't risk acetone. Isopropyl alcohol is the standard one used for cleaning; it used to be supplied in a small container for cleaning tape heads etc. You can buy larger spray bottles from Amazon

Why not acetone?
Acetone feels a bit harsh to be - no scientific reason. I realise you got away with it but I'd still be hesitant to use it.

Not that I looked it up first, but this from Google:

“ Acetone is a powerful colorless solvent that is used to clean in the manufacturing process of many plastic, metal, and composite products. Common uses of Acetone include cleaner for grease, oil, resin, ink, permanent marker, adhesive, and paint. ”

And as I say, it seemed to do the job!
Before retiring, I worked as a Research Technician. One day one of the girls from the Admin Office asked if she could have a little bit of acetone to clean something. I gave her a little bit, only for her to return and tell me that the acetone had melted the CDs she was trying to clean. Some, but not all plastics can be cleaned with acetone. Isopropyl alcohol is far better and safer. I wouldn't put acetone anywhere near an ipad!

Well, electrochem, see me as a Guinea Pig.

It’s now 1022. I cleaned my home key at 0630. So far, it’s still working perfectly.

If it melts, I’ll use my desktop Mac to let you know...
I've melted keyboard keys using nail polish remover. I only did it once.
