sadly i think you need to start typing it again before you forget what you were writing :-(
If you restart Word it just might give you a pointer to it and ask if you want to retrieve it.
Do you know that you can set Word to autosave every n minutes? You can choose n.
if you have autosave on then when you restart it should recover the document for you.

I started to read your answer BHG, when pc switched off again and restarted, I'll see if I have autosave TTT and I'll try the link you gave Corby. Many Thanks guys!

Further to all this, my pc has now switched itself off and back on another two times and though I've had to re-think and rewrite stuff, with auto save on (I hope) it still didn't save anything recently written...but I can't understand the pc turning itself off and on!...any ideas? plain and simple please!

Hi Aelmpvw, there's certainly a lot there to look at, which I have, but none seem to fit the bill, as if I know anything anyway, but I'll go back and read 'em again - I just hope it's nothing to do with all these issues I have with choosing new browsers!...be safer with new trousers, eh!!
Hi Corbo
thanks for the acronis link - looks quite good
