I'm very happy with my four year old phone except it is no longer being supported by the manufacturer and not receiving updates.
How much of a threat is this? Should I be concerned enough to update it from Android 9 to Android 10?

No real idea, but suspect low risk. How much profit is there trying for hours to work out how to crack a diminishing number of old mobiles ? IMO Whilst it still works, use it. But be wary of doing any financial stuff on a wireless internet connection anyway.
