Bad news, I'm afraid!
To replace the battery, you need to remove the optical drive (Section 6, page 17, below), then remove the base cover (Section 8, page 21) and finally remove the battery (Section 10, page 25) before inserting a new battery and putting everything back together again:

It might be best to start by contacting Dell UK Support to ask them whether a 2-year-old battery really should be dead: 0800 587 1456 (0900 - 1700, Mon to Fri, calls are free)
