If you've got a wired mouse hiding away in a drawer (as many people have after switching to a wireless mouse), dig it out to see if it will work. If it does, you'll know that the problem rests with your wireless mouse; if it doesn't the problem is with Windows.
If you've not got a wired mouse about the place, try to borrow one from a friend, neighbour or colleague. If all else fails, nip down to Asda and but one for £4:

(It's always a good idea to have a spare mouse handy anyway. I've got several of them).
If the problem turns out to be with Windows, try the solutions here:

If the problem turns out to be with your wireless mouse, try updating the driver for it:

(You'll need to use your wired mouse to complete the task).
