Hi,how can I page or send a message to someone via the internet without using a Microsoft messenger type system? I presume I need to know their IP address?

Many thanks.

Theres a thing called email that seems to be catching on with a few folks. Otherwise, no. (it is possible but most firewalls will now block winmess sort of communication)
If I understand you correctly there are lots of non-Gatesian email systems. Pegasus mail is one, there are lots of others. You will need to know the POP3 and SMTP addresses, antivirus (not usually firewalls) might need configuring.
Online faxing can be a good tool to do that. Ringcentral has provided me with the most cost effective service.
