why does my laptop have an extra option-hibernate- than my pc has, in the closedown menu?

The laptop probably has Hibernate activated and your desktop PC does not.


If you are running XP, you can check by going to Control Panel>Power Options>Hibernate tab and looking at the check box. To activate it just tick the box, Apply and OK.


From memory the first time you want to use it you have to hold down the Shift key while clicking Stand-by - check it out in the Help, look for Hibernate.

Because your laptop can run on batteries? It wouldn't be a critical feature on a PC.
