How Much Data Should I Buy?
13 Answers
I mistakenly left my mobile data on today instead of using my WiFi, my next month’s data starts on 23 November and I have now used 47GB of my monthly allowance of 1.24 GB. To top up with 500MB extra data is only £2.50. How much should I buy to take me back to my monthly allowance of 1.25GB. It is all too confusing for me. I can’t work out megabytes and gigabytes.. easy answers please. Thanks all.

As it stands, that doesn't make sense (as what you've used appears to be vastly in excess of your monthly allowance!). So I assume that the '47GB' should read '47 MB'.
There are 1000 MB in 1 GB. (Pedantically, it's actually 1024, rather than 1000, due to the way computers work, but that can be ignored here.
So you've got 1240 MB (or 1250 MB, depending upon whether it's the '1.24' or '1.25' figure in your post that's the correct one) available to you each month. If you've only used 47 MB so far, you've only used 4.6% of your monthly allowance up until now, so you shouldn't need any additional top-up at all.
HOWEVER, if you REALLY mean that you've used 47 GB then, as you've only paid for 1.24 (or 1.25) GB, you'd need a MASSIVE top-up to bring you back on track. I simply can't see that's possible though unless, for example, you've downloaded loads of full-length movies in high definition today.

Thank you everyone, it is all a bit much for me to work it out but I will top up 500MB. I am with Tesco and my phone is under contract for about another 18 months, but the network is very poor where I live, I am always cutting people off on the phone and only one bar on the little triangle. (Told you I wasn’t technical! )
Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network. If you're getting a lousy signal from their masts, make sure that any provider you switch to in the future isn't also using O2's masts.
That rules out GiffGaff (as recommended by Gizmonster) because they use O2. 1p mobile, as recommended by Piper107, uses EE's masts. Adsa Mobile (as recommended by me) uses Vodafone:
