Usually you can ask a seller a question it does just that but for an item today I tried and Ebay prefilled the proforma with all my personal details and demanded they stay before I could contact the seller. Anyone know what's occurring here? First time this has happened is it a recent change? Anyone know about this?

Odd that TTT, like you say its never been a problem before.

If thats their attitude then I guess its ebay of the list too now. What a pain, I like eBay.
What was the item? Is it a car?
Never come across that before. Can't see why they are doing this.
Question Author
the thing is YMB it doesn't do it for everything.
Question Author
barry it's a motorcycle
It doesn't bother me - sellers have always been able to get bidders details as soon as they place a bid.
I've just looked a random car, clicked 'asked seller a question' and my personal info is there, including phone number.

I did the same for multivitamins and no personal details are sent
I picked an item at random and clicked on the contact option.

There was no personal info showing so could it be an option available for the seller to insist upon?
So I see TTT, I just tried it on an item I was interested in and it was fine. Must be something to do with vehicles.
Question Author
I'm chatting now with an Ebay bloke who seems equally mystified!
Question Author
try it on a vehicle YMB!
I picked a random car and yes, my details were there but they can be amended so you could say you were asking on behalf of a pal and put in different details.
Question Author
This will kill sales of vehicles if it is deliberate.
Question Author
He's now transferring me to a specialist team!
Question Author
well the specialist was kin useless! Didn't grasp the issue at all.

Vehicle sales are treated differently to other sales on EBay. They are 'Classified' adverts rather than the normal auction/by it now style listings. the rules for selling and buying under classified are different. The transactions are not covered by the Ebay seller/buyer protection, and no feedback can be given. It's probably for this reason that the seller has access to the potential buyers address and phone number and vice versa . Customer Services should know this.
Vehicles on eBay can be offered as classified ads or by "auction-style".

Queries on the classified ones have pre-populated details and the "auction-style" ones don't but the specialist should have been aware of the difference.
You all know that every seller can get every bidders personal details before the listing / auction ends?

Does that put you off using eBay?
Barry sellers/buyers can only get an email address to contact each other, nothing else. A seller only gets the address of the buyer when the item has been paid for.
Thanks, APG, there policy must have changed. Several times I have had reason to request a bidders personal details - eBay provided full name, address and telephone number.
