From My Computer go to C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp and delete the unwanted items.

If running Windows 98 or above, Select run and type 'msconfig' then enter click on the last tab called 'Startup' and this will give you access to disable any programs which start during boot up, to disable just remove the cross linked the that program and then restart system. Beware of what programs you are disabling as some are required for windows to operate correctly.
