Email Retrieval

Is it possible for someone else to retrieve emails they have already sent back from you? I am having hard time finding a paper trail of emails that I am convinced I received but now cannot find.
I do have evidence of this person making a request to retrieve an email because the email and the request both came through and they were unsuccessful in reversing it.
If its possible can it be done even days or weeks after? All help gratefully received.

I think that you are going to have to clarify your question. Did you send an email and get a reply?
What do you mean by retrieving an email?
Have you checked in the folder 'All Mail?'
