It is impossible to delete the trash folder in hotmail - it has to be there. You can however empty its contents out and leave it empty

Bill, I am not daft I tryed that that is why I am asking. Chazza its the contents I am trying to delete but unable to

I've solved it but it seems a lot of people have the same problem judging by a quick google search.

There is a workround but you need firefox to do it.

Go into firefox and type in the address www.hotmail.com. Then sign in as normal. Then open the mailbox. You will see trashcan stuffed full so go into it and check all the trash emails and say delete. Yes, you do get asked if you "are sure" so say yes and they do get cleared off !

As to any other way of clearing the trash without going through firefox I haven't a clue, sorry - but if you are stuck then this is one way to sort the problem.

I would say though to try again because trash did clear for most people after a few days.
