I have used my laptop for hours on end with it plugged in to the mains, thinking this is the best solution to maintaining power and not having to rely on the battery charge.
Now the laptop is tending to get hot quickly and the battery life is short.
Have I likely ruined the battery by using the laptop with it plugged into the mains?
Hi Maydup I had to replace the battery in my chromeback last year and following the usual great advice from Buenchico bought a new battery from : laptop-battery.org.uk Very reasonably priced and very helpful. Good luck. FBG40
I did the same thing - when my battery was fully charged, I kept forgetting to unplug it.
Eventually I ended up with a battery that wouldn't hold its charge and ended up needing a new battery :(
Laptop batteries should be charged to a maximum of 80%. In fact, most modern laptops feature what is known as "Battery Life Extender" mode which allows you to keep it plugged into the mains but not to overcharge it:
I definitely don't have a battery life extender as mine charges up to 100%. The battery life is annoying but the overheating feels a bit alarming so I best look at replacing the battery I suppose.
Any tips? Its a Dell Inspiron 2 in 1. About 2 years old.
Yep the battery is definitely overheating and not holding charge for very long.
Any tips on where to buy a new one? Prices seem to vary so much. Nervous of the very cheapest online but would feel a fool if I paid too whack unless I need to.

My laptop is about 2 years old Ladybirder. But I have probably killed the battery this week as we watched Golf on it for three days solid with it plugged into the mains.
