Internet printing problems

I am running Windows 98 and have a HP Deskjet 670C printer. When I am not connected to the 'net I have no problems printing any item I want - full colour pictures, text, etc etc, but when I am on the 'net, if I try to print anything, I get an error message such as 'communication with printer lost' or 'error on system'. Am I doing something wrong or is this an easilly fixable problem?

To diagnose this fully, we'll need to know what connections you have for your printer and net connection. Printer: Parallel or USB; Internet: Internal Modem, External Modem, ISDN, USB ADSL or Ethernet ADSL?

I'm not sure what most of that means. I have a 'SwannSmart11' internal modem and use IE6. Could you be more 'computer dunderhead' specific on the rest? Many thanks for your reply. I don't know if it helps but when I try to print, it will start to print my document, then when it gets maybe a quarter of the way through, that's when it stops and I get the error message.
For the benefits of this site, I think the problem could be to do with bidirectional communications and the port settings for your printer port. For your benefit however, and to not clog up this page, I'll continue to help you by email. If you want further help, email me at : [email protected]
I too run Windows 98 and have a deskjet 670C, however that is not the problem, printing direct from the Internet has always been troublesome, the best thing to do is save the web page and print it out while you are offline.
