How Can I Get A (Free) Spellchecker?

My old computer, a Packard-Bell with Windows 7, has recently been superseded by a Medion (Aldi) with Windows 11. The old PC had a spellchecker that worked on every site where I typed, this one included. It was set to American English, but that was OK as my spelling is good. It was useful in spotting typos. This new one doesn't have a spellchecker. I am not technically literate at all, so if it's complicated I'll get my s-i-l to do it, if it can be done. Can any of you technical wizards tell me how to get a spellchecker, please?

I had to look up what a browser is. I use Firefox unless there is a problem, then I use Chrome. Browser, search engine, never can remember the diffeence and which is which.

That's informative, JimF. I've only looked at the Firefox link and followed the instructions. The button 'Check your spelling as you type' is ticked! I've unticked it and re-ticked it -- no difference. But what I haven't seen is a box labelled 'Save changes' which is usual in these sorts of things.

I've just opened Google Chrome and found that I have a spellchecker there. But I'm so used to using Firefox and it seems politically correct to distance oneself from the giant conglomerate that is Google -- though I 'happily' use Google Maps, Photos and Translate, but I don't like mysteries, like why is the spellchecker not working when the button is ticked?
