I would say...plug the Ipod into a USB socket. Then double click my computer and you should see it there along with the other drives. Double click that and you should see the folders containing you mp3 files. Copy and paste them to wherever you want to save them, or just drag them out onto your desktop ready to deal with as you wish....make a new folder especially if you want...commoner.

Thanks commoner but this doesn't work. The files do nor show on My Computer in a recognisable format.
please search the site before posting... this has been answered several times.

Phil do you have Itunes installed on ur computer, just cos the music on the ipod is in a different file format to windows media player.

fo3nix Thanks for that link. I have downloaded the trial and that works. I have itunes installed Spotty' but I cannot find a way of copying the files from the ipod onto the PC. I was wondering if there was a simple way that I was missing.
Apple don't want you to do this because of copywrite issues so it's not straitforward. But, as fo3nix says, you can get 3rd party software that does the job.
PhilD: yes that'll do everything you want, and more. but there is no trial; it's free software.

Thanks fo3nix. I missed the Yamipod link and went to the ipodhackers site which gives trial software. I've installed Yamipod and it works fine. Have a good New Year.
