Check your cables/connections ?
A qucik internet search found a couple of people who said that uninstalling avast caused their ethernet adaptor to stop working.

Try unplugging the PC at the wall. Leave for 10 mins. During this time make sure all your cables are connected securely. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Should ethernet be working
Ethernet is the cable connection to the internet so you need it working yes.

Question Author
ok - thanks all for help - typing this on the computer but is still not allowing me on the culprit site and I will just leave that alone - as long as I can get onto my other sites.

the only thing is I do use Edge browser and have been doing so for some time but it is too too slow

Can anybody advise a better browser

I have used

Edge
Internet Explorer
Firefox
Google Chrome

so a better one would be great.

Thanks again.
Glad you are back on :)

As long as you don't need the culprit site. Have you tried accessing it on a different browser?

Not sure why Edge should be running slowly, can you describe what you mean a bit more?
The other main browsers Chrome and Firefox you already mentioned - do those run slow as well or did you not like them?

Question Author
It takes Edge a long time to open ie circle going round and round and those I mentioned can be long too. The funny thing is that the culprit site opens just fine on my tablet
Ok - try clearing the browser cache - clear guide with pictures here:

Chelle. Don't be astounded but I have 15000 emails would that cause any kind of problem. I do need some of them

I also use think it is 8.1 computer
you should download when ya back on "Avast uninstaller" and run it to make sure its all off...
would have been better to do it first , but hey ho
Lol that is quite a bit of email jj.
If you are accessing them online it shouldn't be the cause of the issue, but if you have the email account open in a tab all the time it might not be helping speeds.
I would try clearing the cache as in the link as a first step. See if that helps. You might nee to reboot the PC after,
I use Slimjet as my main web browser. It's Chromium-based, so you can use Chrome plugins with it, but it comes with a built-in ad blocker (which can, of course, be disabled when using The Answerbank, etc) and a built-in YouTube video downloader, as well a download manager and many other features.

My posts here, at 0844 (at the foot of the page) and 1824 (on the second page), provide a few useful tips on configuring Slimjet to work the way that you want it to:

Which site is causing the problem? Have you searched to see if anybody else has problems with the site?
