all my desktop icons seem to be highlighted!

This may have happened in the rebooting and subsequent purchase of Spyware (see question below), however how do I get rid of it?

Not 100% sure if this is it, but this can cause what you have explained to happen.

Check your shift keys (incase you're not sure which they are, they are are poining up, the ones you hold when you want to type in upper case - just incase you weren't too sure).

If one of these keys is stuck down, your desktop icons (or some of) may all be highlighted. Just pop the keys out with something and clean them if necessary before putting them back on.
