Phone And Car

One sony experian android, one VW - can't get the car's usb ports, two of them to choose from, to connect to the phone, and a new cable too. it's charging though. No problem on inside the house. Just need it to use Waze or Google Maps from time to time.

Anybody any ideas to what the 'blockage' maybe?

Do you have a usb in the centre consol ? If you do, this is the only port that will connect your phone via USB.
The other USB's are not connected to the stereo. They are for charging only.

The new cable might be charge only, no data connection.

Not clear what your problem is.
The phone charges with the cables in the car but won't connect to the internet inside the car. Is that correct?

true about the new cable, I'll try the one here in the house,

I have two ports under the central console, the actual phone connects by bluetooth, these ports are for the data I guess.

So the phone connects to the car via bluetooth yea ??
If so, I can't see why you'd need/want to connect using a cable, as you should be able to do everything you need via a bluetooth connection.

Forgot to say. Your VW is not forced to be 'Android Auto' ready.
This was a option at new. If your Stereo is not Android Auto 'Unlocked' Then you will have to go to a VW centre to have this done. I think it's over £300 (Was about £150 at time of purchase of the vehicle).
I had my one unlocked by an independent (back street auto guy) at a cost of £100 cash.
This guy was in Leicester, But others around the country will do it.

Back in the day Bluetooth didn't work if the phone was connected by cable to a data port, I don't know if that's changed now.

Never been able to do that, Giz.....just the phone calls work...everything else via the cable...

Gizmonster, The feature that DT wants is only available via Android Auto (and requires a cable connection) on models younger than 2022. After 2022 the feature works wirelessly.

th car is 2018 and there is a console onscreen choice of android or mirrorlink that can appear from time to tiime....

Here is what you need to do if your car is 'Android Auto ready'

If you get this display ''App connect- You can activate the function by means of an activation key. Please contact your dealer''
The you need to have your MIB2 stereo unlocked.



If you want to do this. Google MIB2 unlocking in your area.
