I've been going to ask this question for a while but I keep forgetting. I've got windows 10 and I'm using firefox. When I type into the search bar it automatically goes into the url address bar. I've been into my settings but I can't find a way to change it back to the way it was. Is this an imorovement that I'm stuck with? It's not a problem really, I just don't like change.

When added to the Firefox browser, the New Tab Override extension customizes the page that shows whenever you open a new tab. Once choosing a desired search engine webpage, add its address to the extension settings. Your chosen search page will now be shown whenever you open a new tab.

When you type in the search bar the automatic URL address bar feature will no longer be accessed. You will however lose the other features of the Firefox default new tab page and be limited to the features of the search engine page.

If New Tab Override does not provide all the features you need, try searching for “new tab” within Firefox extensions for a large selection of new tab customizations.
Oh dear. AI to the 'rescue'.
You could try disabling the search feature from the address bar. It might help:

Buenchico, tried that but no joy. Thanks anyway.
PsalmEquipt, The first two 'new tabs' were slightly beyond me but I'm going to try a few others and see how it goes. Thanks for the reply.
