keyboard typing problem

I dont know what has happened but when I type the letter I press gets highlighted in red somewhere else on the page (not in my message but on page around it for example here it would highlight letters in question title and what is your question) and at bottom of the page I get a message saying:

searching for text that begins with a (or whatever letter i have typed) [press F3 to jump to the next match] [press \ to search only links]

Also if I press return it closes the message page as if i have finished and sent message. Only way I can press return is at end of message and go through what I have typed and press return where I want a new pragraph when whole message is written.

What have I done and how do I get rid of it please help!!!!!!

I've no idea what you've done. I suggest abandoning it, exiting the e-mail application, opening it again, and starting over with a new message. (I suspect you've already done this by now!)
