Windows XP is an operating system and not software. You would need and Microsoft Office software package for Word. I'm sure there is someone out there who has the technical knowledge to explain this better!

The free office package is Open Office (version2 now has a better Database as well). It is Microsoft Office compatible and it is FREE, FREE, FREE. (Big download though, often given away on Computer Magazine cover discs).
