I had in my settings, 'Block 3rd party cookies'. By unchecking it & checking 'Allow 3rd party cookies' it seems to have done the trick of stopping it from appearing on every page of AB.

But what are the implications of doing this, and is it a good idea?

There was a long discussion on the problem many others also had, on here;

It just means that any ads you see on other sites might now be 'personalised' based upon the threads you post on here. So, for example, if you post on a thread about tents, you might then see more ads for tents and camping equipment on other sites.

I've just checked the default setting that I'm using with my web browser (Slimjet). It's set to 'Block third-party cookies in incognito mode'. (i.e. they're allowed when I'm using the 'regular' mode). I'm perfectly happy to leave it that way.

Thanks Chris. I tried the 'Block third-party cookies in incognito' mode first, but that didn't work for me in AB, only the 'allow' setting works.

It seems strange that this company has such (appropriately named) power to force all AB users to comply with its terms.
I can no longer use AB on Google Chrome because of the nagging "Donate" popup. I don't use a cookie blocker, but that appears to make no difference. The Eds are not interested in this, or anything else, which relates to their users' experience...
^^^ Have you checked that 3rd party cookies are enabled in Chrome, Jim?

As I read Khandro's post, that ought to fix the problem.
//Generally, third-party cookies are considered to be an infringement of user privacy. Blocking third-party cookies improves user security and privacy while presenting a challenge for companies that provide ads and track consumer behavior because they frequently put ads that follow users around the web.//

//Accepting third-party cookies means allowing other websites, which you may not have even visited, to collect your data or monitor your browsing activity. However, blocking some websites may cause some of their services to break, as a lot of them rely on third-party providers.//

I'd prefer to suffer the annoying pop every time I refresh a page or click on a post than allow unknown websites to target me.

I agree, & now I have found the reason, I shall return to ''Block third-party cookies" & have to unfortunately, unless the Eds do something about it, live with the consequences.

One thing that makes it slightly less onerous is that clicking anywhere on the greyed-out screen removes it.

btw. your link doesn't work.
