I'm not surprised, they get thrown under the bus.

from the link.

\\An officer was charged with murder after Chris Kaba was shot dead last year after he drove his Audi into a marked police car.//I'm certain the inital reports were he rammed his Audi.

\\Sky News policing commentator Graham Wettone said: "Officers on the frontline do not feel they have the support and backing of their senior leaders.//

Really?

Told ya..............

Not for the first time. I believe a lot of authorisation cards were handed in after the Mark Duggan shooting. Quite rightly so.

I don't blame them it's just too dangerous being an armed plod these days, one error and you're in the slammer.

On strike by another name.

Question Author

They are not on strike they are still coppering just without firearms.

"one error and you're in the slammer."

How many armed police officers have ended up in gaol?

I wonder how many of the gangsters..sorry,gangstahs,will do the same?

// one error and you're in the slammer. //

After a prosecution, and a jury decides.

I knew four different police officers who shot and killed villains. One officer had been obliged twice to shoot a villain before he was permanently removed from firearms duties.I know for a fact that whilst under investigation the job treated them like Pariahs. They were allowed no contact with other police officers or to collect any belongings from their base. Many authorised firearms considered their position when they heard how their colleagues risked their lives voluntarily only to be treated like criminals by their paymasters before going to trial. You still get the same pay if you choose to be armed or not.

What happened to them at their court cases?

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigated the Sept 2022 incident. Most of the witnesses would have been fellow officers, and presumably there would be body-cam evidence. On conclusion of its investigation they passed on their file to the CPS in March. The CPS decided there was enough evidence to win a presecution.

An unarmed man was killed by a police bullet, so a trial will decide whether it was a tragic error, or recklessness.

Presumably they want immunity. Considering we are now discovering that the Met is stuffed with wrong uns, this could be disastrous. They have to be accountable.

My mate Phil gives a reasoned view on this – plus pointing out that Braverman has interfered with the court case, which could be judged as subverting the course of justice.

But don’t hold your breath expecting her to be held to account for her actions.

Phil also suggests that Baverman might succeed Sunak as leader (once the Tories lose the general election and they ditch him) – heaven help us if she ever becomes Prime Minister.

'Offering his support to his officers, Sir Mark [the Met Police Commissioner] wrote to the Home Secretary on Sunday, voicing their concern "that even if they stick to the tactics and training they have been given, they will face years of protracted legal proceedings".'

Could it not be the tactics and training need to be reviewed rather than the legislation?

OK you lot, get out your armchairs join the Old Bill and go out on armed duty.

Most of you would cac your pants at the first sighn of a shooter I bet.

//Could it not be the tactics and training need to be reviewed rather than the legislation?//

Armed officers are not robots. They volunteer to carry firearms. I have attended many firearms training exercises and reclassifications in both hand guns and carbines. There is no instructor standing behind you in the real world advising you to shoot or not to shoot. It is the individuals split second decision who, sometimes, pulls the trigger first. We had a Hogan's Alley range at our central Met range and also a cinema range. What more they could do? It is a shoot or be shot decision.

Enough have now returned to their duties.

// The Army has been stood down from supporting the Metropolitan Police after hundreds of officers stepped back from firearms duties.

Soldiers were put on standby after some armed officers spent the weekend considering their position.

It comes after an officer was charged with murdering Chris Kaba, 24, who was shot last September.

Officers from other forces were drafted in to help, but the Met said on Monday enough have returned to duty. //

As I wrote earlier. Blue cards were handed in after the Mark Duggan shooting but most returned to firearms duties. They are not allowed to strike by law but they can make their point to the Boss and H.O.
