disc drive not working

My cd disc drive on my packard bell tower system is'nt working and I can't figure out why. Can anybody help with any suggestions. I have done a full system scan and also when I check my cd-rom drive properties it says everything is working properly. Thanks in advance.

In what way is it not working? Be more specific - is it stuck shut, does it never recognise discs, does it cause the OS to crash?
