Powered Sub Woofer
Can anybody recommend a powered sub woofer thats still available? Or maybe a brand/model or seller?
I need a powered Subwoofer on its own, eg. not a complete 5.1 type system. I'm looking to run it from a Sony amp seperate so it needs a phono connection.
I'm in Portsmouth so any shop within 30 miles or so would be good.

If you haven't done so already, you might also like to think about how to use your subwoofer in conjunction with listening to CDs, radio, etc, when your amp would not be delivering 5.1 output but stereo or possibly surround-stereo output, Pro-logic, etc. I believe some subwoofers have been designed to include connectivity/switching to make this possible with little or no inconvenience. Otherwise I think your subwoofer would only spring into action when 5.1 is output from your amp. In this regard, an example to consider is the REL Storm III - see http://www.hifichoice.co.uk/review_read.asp?ID=436
Consider also these manufacturers which have very good reputations. Some are very expensive:
KEF - see http://www.kef.com/products/subwoofers/psw5000.asp
SVS - see http://www.av-sales.co.uk/search.php?stext=SVS&sMinp rice=Min+Price&sMaxprice=Max+Price&Submit.x=68&a mp;Submit.y=8&scat=183&stype=exact&pg=1
Various others, incl Linn, Tannoy (inexpensive), Mission (inexpensive) - They probably have their own websites, but start by looking at http://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/stoneaudio/products/browser. asp?range=49
Good luck!
Thanks Robert.
The amp i bought is more complex than a 400 square scrabble board. I'm hoping that I'll eventually manage to work it out! Although i've managed to get a degree of 5.1 out of it at the moment (well, 5.0 without the sub).
I'll take a look at the subs from those brands though, i've heard of a couple of them so thats a good sign. There's no bass from my system at all at the moment as i only have some 2" satelite speakers, and they just struggle to get the bottom of the mid range rather than any actual bass!
Thanks for your help!
