Excel conditional format

is it possible for the value of a cell to determine the format of a non adjacent cell eg, If A3=1 the D7=blue and if A3=2 then D7=green have tried excel on line help but can't find the answer. thanks anyone

One way is to go to the cell eg.D7 and use conditional formatting as follows:-

Format
Conditional formatting
left hand box, change from 'Cell Value Is' to 'Formula Is' then type in '=(a3=1)' (without the quotes), DON'T use IF. Then Edit and 'Fill Down'

This is in Excel 2000

To do other colours would require the use of OR but I haven't tried it yet.

Camioneur, to do more than one condition you don't use OR, you click on Add within the Conditional Formatting and then do another formula eg =(A3=2) and then format with another colour. Just tried it, it works.
