Hey all. I had Irish Broadband installed a few months ago. (Breeze 1MB promising download and upload speeds of 1MB per sec. and a contention ratio of 48:1 for 35.99 per month). Anyway, initially it was fine, seemed very fast, but now it has slowed considerably, I guess all 48 are using it at the same time, my download and upload speeds can be around 10 or 20 Kb per second, sometimes lower. I suppose with the contention it works as 1000kb divided by 48 = 20kb per second. Is this false marketing saying 1MB or was I just suckered into not working out the speed bearing in mind the contention ratio?, my dial up connection seemed quicker.

Have a go here to check what speeds you're getting

Usually the uploading rate is a lot slower than downloading, all I would be concerned about is that youre download is near the 1mb speed as they advertise. The larger graphic shows you a comparison with what you should be getting.
Well, normal use on the network should not pull down the speed so much, unless a few people are downloading massive files continuously, but the quality of your connection can affect this also, has it been chucking it down with rain in your area lately because this often effects things when moisture gets into junction boxes etc....
I suggest that you wait until a time when you might expect the network to be less busy and run the test suggested above. If the result is still v-slow contact your ISP.
