Cannot Open Certain Files On My Win 10 Pc - Help Please.

In 'my docs' I have all my files both photos and docs and most of them open in either 'word' 'photos' or whatever the icon denotes (I use MS photo for all photos) but my problem is this:

I have a load of files which I originally saved from email attachments both photos and docs last year when I used GMail but I cannot re-save them as my GMail has gone and I am now on Outlook. The files in question all have a blue envelope icon which shows in my apps list as being MS Mail and calendar - I have never used this and my default in Win 10 is set for Outlook new.

When I click these file nothing happens and a right click to properties shows me 'eml file open with Mail'!  Have tried opening them in the other suggested ways listed but nothing happens.

I have opened these successfully since I have been on Outlook I know and the only thing I have done differently is to change from Word to Apache open office and I do not think that is anything to do with it?

Would appreciate some help otherwise I have lost everything. I did save them to a memory stick some time ago but putting that into my PC and opening it up is exactly the same. Where have I gone wrong?

Thank you

Moggie

They are saved electronic mail files. You need a programme that can open them installed first. Alternatively look for a file convertion programme.

Can you right click one and 'open in notepad'?

They are saved electronic mail files. You need a programme that can open them installed first. Alternatively look for a file convertion programme.

PS they are likely to be the whole e-mail, not just the attachment.

Your e-mail client could probably import them.

Thanks both - notepad did not work just a load of letters However 'old geezer' I downloaded Doxcillon and did them one by one and they converted to docx or word depending on the format so I have saved them to memory stik to be safe.

Well done and thanks again
