Do you bank online so you can view your statements on your computer/phone/tablet?

If not, do you have a phone that can take a photo of a paper statement?

Henry  ... do not sent someone a copy of your bank details!

What on Earth do they need that for ?  Sounds like a scam to me.  The seller will know that you paid. If they accept a return then they can refund without seeing any statement.

Do not send a copy of your bank statement, you have the original order number they can trace payment through that.

was it a U.K. company?

barry   i do  bank  on  line     would  it  be  possible  to  cut  out  the  charge  from  my  statemrnt     and  send  it  by  email    would  like  to  know  how  to  do  that

You can do a screen dump and edit it.

But it still sounds very dodgy to me.

I shop online all the time and have never had to provide my bank statement for a refund

Who is the seller?

From Google:

"Never send bank statement details to a seller" is a crucial rule to follow when buying online because it's a common scam tactic where sellers try to trick you into giving them your sensitive banking information, potentially allowing them to steal money from your account; always be wary of any seller asking for your bank statement details, and never provide them; if you suspect a scam, report it to the platform and contact your bank immediately.

I agree never send bank details out.  There may be legitimate times you have to do so, but always oliberate any refernece to account number, sort code etc.

PLEASE do not send the requested copy of your statement.  This is a scam.  They sell you something and then try to get your bank details.

What was the value of the item? It might be best to accept the loss, and be thankful not to lose a whole lot more via a scam.

Stick to UK sellers only if you can and look for genuiune reviews.

I do almost all my shopping online and I have never EVER been asked to send a pic of my bank statement in order to get a refund. Please do NOT send one, not even a cropped screenshot.

don't know, since I never returned an item but good luck!

May I add my voice to the clamour "Do not send bank statement".
