I recently upgraded to Windows 11.  Previously to print screen, I just pressed prt scr on my  keyboard and then pasted it into a Blank document.   Now it says to press the Windows logo at the same time as prt scr and a message comes up to say it has been saved to the clipboard.  But nothing happens when I try to paste this.  The saved Screenprint is there but just shows a blank black screen.  What should I be doing please??

It will be in Pictures-Screenshots

On both my works laptop and personal one (both running Windows 11) after pressing the print screen key, the display slightly dims with an icon appearing at top centre having the option to copy/capture a snip, video, dropdown menu (rectangle/window/full screen/freeform) into whatever document/application.

If you are not seeing the above, it would suggest a normal Microsoft glitch that might fix itself on re-boot, or update (or maybe not).

I can't recall ever using the Print Screen command in the past two decades.  Indeed, until reading your post, I'd probably forgotten that it ever existed!  Instead, I use the Windows Snipping Tool.

Go to All Apps and right-click on 'Snipping Tool'.  Select 'More' and then 'Pin to taskbar'.  You'll then have the Snipping Tool readily available to you whenever you need to use it.

it's in the screen shots folder.

I used the Print Screen button as well but when I changed to Win 11 it didn't work - after some searching I found I had to use the FN & Windows key to save screen shots in the previous mentioned folder.

Use the shortcut Fn + Windows Key + F12 (or Windows Key + PrtSc if a dedicated Print Screen key exists) to capture the entire screen. The screen dims for about half a second, confirming a screenshot being added to the \Pictures\Screenshots folder.

Another option is to use the Snipping Tool to capture any part of the screen as an image.

Thanks to you all for your prompt help!  Sorry I was unable to reply yesterday.

Not sure how to use the snipping tool, Buenchico,  but I will experiment!  Also I will try and follow the You Tube instructions suggested by PsalmEquipt.

However since sending the question, I tried again using Windows key and 'prt scr' and eventually it worked - the trick was to only press briefly together, a long press opens up as described by Hymie, but I didn't know how to proceed.  The image gets saved to Screenshots folder, but this was just a black screen which I couldn't open.

Anyway,  I think its ok now,  once again, thanks to everyone who replied.

Snippint tool the the best of inventions you can take images off the net which you would normally have to pay for.

Get the icon onto your taskbar at the bottom of the screen, click on it and you will get a panel, click on 'new' the screen goes slightly opaque, draw the perimeter of what you want, click, save as, choose a file from the list at the edge of the screen, rename it if you want and click save. - voila!

sky Go hate this feature, they have a special detector that detects it and shuts down viewing!

The W11 screen shot/snipping tool is great.
