Landline Phone Query

I recently changed my Broadband provider. From Virgin to Sky.

I had my landline working with Virgin but decided not to have it with Sky as it was never used for outgoing calls and only sometimes getting incoming calls.

There are a number of people who would ring occasionally and I have no way of contacting them to advise the line is no longer in use.

Problem is, if you ring my landline you will get the ringing tone but will never get an answer.

Who do I advise to have the line permanently disconnected?

Virgin

I think you mean to get the number removed so anyone phoning it gets the unobtainable tone. I thought you had to keep the actual line connected/live with most broadband packages including Sky.

I've just checked and the phone line is included. Plug your phone in and check that it does work.

Sky won't deactivate it. Bonkers, isn't it?

Virgin will disconnect my landline but my monthly bill would cost me more - I get a discount for having a landline ☹️

Yes the phone line is included. Never used and would mean running a cable from one side of house to other which I don't want to do

In that case it is Sky that is providing your phone line. You could ask them to disconnect it, assuming you have fibre to the property broadband.

Ask them.

All landlines are becoming voip - which means that your calls come through the broadband hub, rather than the phone socket.

You could get a cordless phone and connect it to the hub
