How do I disable the internal firewall on windows XP and what effect will it have?

Start >> Connect To >> Show all connections. Select your dial up connection, right mouse click then go into properties. Under the 'Advanced' tab, clear the check-box for 'Internet Connection Firewall', then OK. The system settings will come into effect the next time you connect.
