how many photos are stored on 256 & 512 memory cards please does anybody know thanks

That depends on the size and format of the photos. The bigger the photos, the fewer you can store. To give you an idea, a mid quality 1280 x 960 JPEG is around 630KB, so you'd fit about 800 on a 512 card and 400 on a 256.
