Protecting Word documents

Does anyone know if it is possible to protect the text of a word document from being alter (NOT protecting the file itself only the text in the file, so it can still be viewed)?

If I understand you correctly then try this. When you save the file, from the Save dialogue box choose Tools/ General Options. In there you will find the facility to create passwords for two levels of security. One provides proitection against Opening the file, the second against Modifying the file. If you put a password against the Modify option, this allows the file to be opened without allowing the user to make any changes. Note: they can always save it to a different filename, but I don't know how that can be prevented. Hope this helps.

I used the commands for Word 2000. I believe they are different for 97. The Save dialogue box has an Options button which displays the password settings. Otherwise it is the same as 2000.

Try this, create your document and go to file,save as and instead of saving it as a word document, save it as a template.
