Simple Map / diagram program

I want to draw a simple map / diagram showing directions to and through town to my home.

Is there a free program that I can download which would allow me to draw a plan showing roads, roundabouts, junctions, traffic lights, churches, bridges etc.?

Why not go into multimap, copy/save the picture, open it in your graphics/art program (or paint) and put the directions on it. Map too complicated?
