Hi

I have reason to believe my partner has downloaded a 'webwasher' to hide traces of dodgy websites he has been looking at. When I've looked to see what has been downloaded onto the pc I can't see anything which looks like it could be it! Does anyone know what it might be called so I can unistall it? I want to do this without him knowing so he has a nice suprise next time he uses the computer!!

I don't see the real problem my self.

But, if your determined to spoil his fun. Go to

Start > Settings > Control Panel. >> Add/Remove Programmes

The programme will be in there if he's using one. Otherwise he'll be doing it manually, which is easy to do.

Or just put the security settings in Internet exoplorer to Maximum, and password protect it. That would stop him getting on there.

BUT, don't be mean. You'll have to put out if you take his p0rn away from him!

It could be a program which is run directly and not actually installed in windows, in that case it could be named anything and hidden anywhere and will not show in the list of installed programs, If it was me using the webwasher and I wanted to be really sneaky I would rename it with a name like win566.dll and keep it in the windows folder somewhere, I think you don't stand much chance to find it in that case.

If he had been reading a mens magazine and he chose to keep that from you, and if you went out of your way to unearth it and confront him with it, I imagine hed be both embarrassed and think you were being a bit sneaky and underhand. For your part, Im sure you think hes being sneaky in hiding it, but surely thats his legitimate choice, or arent partners allowed any areas of privacy in their lives?

Is it really worth checking up on him, and possibly undermining any trust he has in you?

The 'dodgy' websites you refer to are hardly crime of the century, are they? Or do you suspect him of some serious misdeed? If so, perhaps the police should be alerted.

Is he getting his work done? Also, what is your corporate policy? And, just having a web washer does not mean he is guilty of anything. They are great for removing cookies and some spyware and other garbage that collects in our computers. He may simply be freeing up some space.
