RAM not detected

Please Help!

I have 512mb Ram - 2 slots of 256mb RAM. However my computer only seems to detect 384mb of RAM. Does anyone have a resonable explanation for this?

Sounds like you may not have a dedicated graphics card, with its own memory. Hence, part of your RAM will be used for graphics processing.

If this is the cause, you can remedy it by getting a dedicated graphics card, with its own memory.

i would first try carefully removing the memory sticks then re-inserting them. it could be one isn't contacting properly and the memory over the others 256 is on a sound/grafix card or such like. put them in one at a time to check how much each stick gives.

Agree with peanut. Add it up. 256 + 128 = 384.

more likely, 256 + 256 - (128 for the graphics) = 384

even if the graphics does use memory, your computer should still tell you what memory is installed, not how much is left.

not necessarily peanut--if u rt click my computer and go to properties general tab it usually shows ram available after deducting ram hived off for graphics--u can tho gavison go into setup at boot up and alter the amount of ram allocated to graphics memory
