The one and only reason I have got cable tv is that I live in an area where the TV reception is terrible(apparently Canary Wharf reduces the signal from Crystal Palace-whether this is true or not I'm not sure but even expensive outdoor and indoor arials didn't improve my picture).Since having cable fitted the picture has been perfect but my friend has just given me a Freeview box which would save me a lot of money but I have a feeling that I may be back to square one with the picture quality.Advice much appreciated.

Hiya

Freeview signals are digital so should be of better quality than standard signals, No reason why picture should not improve, I have both at home cable downstairs & F/W upstairs and have the same quality of pic.

But Freeview is really limited in the number of channels you get unless you buy the extended package so you wont save much

....Freeview set top boxes need to receive an even better signal than the ordinary analogue tv does. If the picture on the normal
five channels through an ariel is poor, then you will be unlikely to get any Freeview channels at all. commoner.
