Transferring VCR tapes to DVD Recorder

I like many others have things on tape that I would like to keep and transfer to DVD format. I have had a look through the manual(Panasonic DMR-ES20DEB)but can't see anything that helps.

I read any american review site on which several people stated that they had done this type of transfer.

There are references to a similar thing in the recent past on this forum but stil not simple enough for me.

Please can anybody advise(I still have my VCR).

I find this very easy to do. Both my television and dvd recorder are hooked up to the tv.

It would be easiest to set up a timed recording - do a short recording first as a trial.

Exactly the same as recording from the tv but put the channel as EXT2. When the dvd starts recording, press play on your video recorder, and away you go!

Of course, if the video tape is a commercial recording with protection it will not record.

I know there are ways of getting round that, but I have not done it as it is illegal!

You need to purchase either a video card that accepts video input (eg ATI all in one Wonder series) or an external box (eg Dazzle Video Creator) to do the same thing, then its just a case of using the software supplied to import it to your pc. Once there it can be converted to MPEG 2 footage which can be burned to a DVD after editing.

Alternatively, there are combined VCR/DVD players on the market which I would imagine have a dub to button.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply perhaps we can go through the process please:

1. DVDR connected to TV thro scart(AV1). Do I then connect DVDR(AV2) to VCR via AV1(on VCR) or something else?

2. Should I disconnect the normal RFin/out coax during this process?

3. Where does the EXT2 come from. Does it already exist on my DVDR or is it a nominal title I just have to enter?

However I don't really want to buy any more kit. I'm hoping to do a relatively simple TV - DVDR - VCR hook-up. I do not want to use or go through my PC.

same problem just got a new vcr/dvd player from daewoo can record from tape to dvd and dvd to tape

I will try to help as much as I can. It's very simple when you get it going.

Mor information needed first though!

How many scarts has the vcr got?

How many scarts has the dvdr got?

Does your tv aerial plug in to the vcr first?


My system is hooked up like this:

1. Tv aerial coaxial lead (normal aerial to me and you) connects to VCR input.

2. Coaxial bridge wire from vcr out to dvdr.

3. Coaxial bridge from dvdr to tv.

Scart leads:

1. From vcr (if 2, from top scart socket) to dvdr scart socket.

2. From dvdr (bottom scart socket) into tv (no1 if there are 2).
Set up vcr and dvd to tv channels.

The video and dvdr will be ext channels. The dvdr will be EXT1 and the vcr will be EXT2.

When setting up timed recording programme EXT1 will be the channel to programme the dvdr to record.

You are a star and I thank you.

There is only one scart on the VCR and the DVDRec has 2. Your instructions are quite clear but I won't be able to confirm my success for some time as I am just about to move house.

I will however try this week but if not check out the site every so often and I will let you know how I got on.
